We ate at TREASURE BAY’s infinity buffet on a recent Tuesday night. Why is Tuesday important? Because on Tuesdays, as well as Thursdays and Fridays, diners can get whole lobsters, along with snow crab and Dungeness crab. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal, but don’t just take my word for it. Angel N. of Denham Springs, La., made a point of talking to us. The Treasure Bay first-timer said she is a Louisiana girl through and through, and in her opinion, the food was downright delicious. She raved about the gumbo — something she says she knows a lot about — and everything else she tried, saying it all tastes homemade, which is the best way. We agree.
Treasure Bay also has a special for those who want some seafood poolside. On June 11, indulge in a Royal Red Low Country Boil while enjoying live entertainment by Ty Taylor at Agua. Served from 2 to 6 p.m., the royal red platter includes peel-and-eat shrimp, Cajun-smoked sausage, boiled potatoes and corn on the cob — all basted with a garlic and herb butter sauce. The cost is $18.
Summertime fun and food can also be found at HARD ROCK Biloxi. The Sunday pool parties have returned each week, and Tequila’s on the Gulf is open Thursday through Sunday. Tacos, fajitas, margaritas and more can be found at this poolside restaurant. Everything is fresh and delicious, and there is just something about drinking a margarita outside that makes it taste that much better.
Earlier this year, MGM Resorts rolled out a reimagined loyalty rewards program, MGM Rewards, saying it has unlocked “unprecedented access for both gaming and non-gaming guests to the company’s 20-plus premier destinations across the country.” Properties include BEAU RIVAGE in Biloxi and GOLD STRIKE in Tunica. One of the coolest aspects about the new program, is that for the first time, non- gaming customers will be able to earn points, known as MGM Rewards Points, redeemable for food, entertainment, hotel stays and more.
I know some people go to Beau Rivage for the wonderful dining options. And, others go for the shopping experience — clothing, jewelry and gifts, they have it all. Now club members can earn points on nearly all expenditures at MGM Resorts destinations, integrating both non-gaming and gaming activity.
The Southern Gaming Summit recently wrapped up in Biloxi. There were several sessions during which industry leaders discussed the future of gaming in Mississippi. One of the hot topics was that of cashless casinos, meaning no more using folding money to exchange for chips or put into slot machines. Everything would be digital — smartphone apps for payment cards and electronic wallets for transfers. It will no doubt be several years before this becomes reality in Mississippi, but, in the meantime, what do you think of this? We go to the movies and we don’t use cash. We attend concerts with tickets purchased online, and take vacations without even having paper tickets or receipts. Are you ready to go cashless in the casino?
