Coast Candymakers is sweet spot to shop
 By Lori Beth Susman
GULFPORT — Red velvet truffles, apples coated with caramel and chocolate, and chocolate-covered Oreos are just a few of the luscious treats available at Coast Candymakers. Located across the street from Island View Casino Resorts, the candy shop is the perfect stop for those looking for a sweet gift to give (or keep) for Valentine’s Day.
Pastry chef Denise Pharr and her team have been busy dipping,
rolling and sprinkling to

or white. For Valentine’s Day, the strawberries come packaged in a heart- shaped box ready for gift giving.
The chocolate-covered strawberries are so popular, in
fact, last year more than 800
dozen were sold in the three-
day period prior to Valentine’s
Day. That doesn’t include all
the strawberries sold in the weeks leading up to the holiday. The candy team spends hours before the shop
Pharr said they get requests for sweets that will be served at Mardi Gras balls and parties, football parties, and even baby showers. Her team can prepare candy platters that are colorful and tasty for all sorts of special occasions. Along with the cookies, truffles and strawberries, there are pralines, turtles, rice cereal treats, chocolate-covered oversized marshmallows and a variety of fudge, all carefully prepared
and made fresh.
Coast Candymakers also has an
assortment of sugar-free treats. And, inside Island View, the The Sweet Stop in the Promenade offers many of these treats, as well.
Coast Candymakers is open Thursday through Sunday from noon to 7 p.m. This year, the shop will be open on Tuesday, Feb. 14. Call (228) 314-2100 at least 48 hours in advance for trays and other special requests.
