GOING GLOBAL
INTERNATIONAL INITIATIVES AT ALCORN STATE UNIVERSITY Great changes are taking place in our time.
Technological advances and communication progress allow people from all over the world to be in touch. e world is becoming more diverse, and college education should reflect those changes, allowing students to be well- rounded and competitive in the job market. Alcorn has been very successful in providing its students with opportunities for developing a global perspective.
One of the international initiatives was creating the Office of Global Programs within the School of Agriculture, Research, Extension and Applied Sciences (AREAS) in 2006. Even though it is a part of the School of AREAS, its work covers the whole university. e goals of the Office of Global Programs are to facilitate sustainable international experiences for stu- dents, including study abroad, international internships, service learning, research abroad,
as well as language and cultural enrichment. e office also facilitates the participation of ASU faculty and staff in exchange programs, research and other international activities enhancing the collective global knowledge of
the university community.
