From the President
Greetings Alcornites and Friends,
Alcorn is entering a new era. As it does, let us acknowledge two things. First, that the history in which this institution is embedded connects everyone who attends, has graduated from, works or has worked for, and supports, our beloved University.
Second, our accomplishments are too great for any one person to claim responsibility, but rather are the product of a talented and committed community of Alcorn supporters — a community I am honored to join. Alcorn is “our” institution: past, present, and future.
For this tremendous opportunity to serve, I thank the Mississippi Board of Trustees of the State Institutions of Higher Learning, past Interim President Norris Allen Edney, our alumni, faculty, staff, friends, and most especially, our students. To Alcornites everywhere, thank you also for your tradition of giving. Your generosity helps preserve and promote the Alcorn legacy.
My responsibilities as Alcorn State University’s 18th president formally began on January 10, 2011. Please join us for the official investiture on April 16, 2011. As we reflect upon the valuable legacy that the University’s founding visionaries have entrusted to us, I am humbled, honored, and filled with the Alcorn spirit of resilience and determination.
As Alcorn continues its commitment to academic excellence and leadership, and to meet the complex challenges of Mississippi and the world, every Alcornite can add to its success. In this edition of Alcorn, we celebrate 140 years of commitment to knowledge and character — and faithful support from the Alcorn family.
Sincerely,
M. Christopher Brown II
