“The best thing is the people from all over. I love talking to people, meeting people,” Foster said. He is fondly known by friends and customers as “Big B.” And at 6’3”, it’s the kind of nickname he says comes naturally for a guy his size.
Open from March through October, Life’s a Beach has four locations across the beach in Biloxi and Gulfport. An ID is required to rent jet skis and wave runners, and those under 16 must have permission from a guardian in order to rent. And Life’s a Beach’s buildings along the beach can be hard to miss; more than one is decorated with airbrush art, featuring the company name.
As for hours, “We’re open pretty much 9 a.m. until dark,” Foster said.
A beach vacation is supposed to be all about fun in the
sun and sand, so for some real excitement while visiting the Gulf Coast, let Life’s a Beach make it happen.

Barney Foster opened Life’s a Beach in 1982, at a time when he says he was just looking for something to do.
“It has definitely changed a lot,” Foster said. “We had
some setbacks with Hurricane Katrina and the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, and maybe we’ve never fully come back.” Despite those troubles, Foster said that as the business kept growing and getting better and better, he had to keep at it.
Foster said every year he gets anxious for the season to start, excited to open up and get to work. But what keeps a seemingly straightforward business exciting for 40 years?
