• Tourism has remained a driving force in the state’s efforts to improve the economic environment for business — efforts which produced a banner year for the gaming industry here in FY18.
• Mississippi casinos hosted approximately 24.5 million visitors, with more than 15 million coming from outside the area; visitors who spent money and added to the bottom line of businesses and to the state’s tax coffers.
• People from around the world continue to explore Mississippi. They nd it is a great place to visit with lots to offer — everything from food to history to literature and the blues. Every community in the Magnolia State has its own story to share. And, along the Gulf Coast, casino chefs are making a name for themselves and their employers by participating in and winning major cooking competitions, including Island View Casino Resort’s Chef Jackie Seavey who was named World Food Champion.
• Sports betting continues to be a big draw for visitors. It is bringing more people to the state and its casinos, where they are not only wagering on sports, but also visiting the casino oor, booking hotel rooms, dining, shopping and more.
