Every year, local artists paint their interpretations of Blue Moon. For years, the Peter Anderson Arts & Crafts Festival has partnered with Blue Moon beer for the Blue Moon Art Project.
After previously entering the
project five times, Mississippi artist Rod Hedgecock’s piece “Upside Down Times” won in 2020 and will be prominent at this year’s festival. He is known for depicting the Coast on canvas and salvaged materials, like rustic ceiling tiles and wood, because he believes that anything can be salvaged and made beautiful again.
“I was inspired by the ups and downs
we all experienced throughout 2020,”
he explains. “According to tradition, the
heron brings messages of self-determination and self- reliance, which I thought made a perfect painting to reflect hope and peace for all who have struggled this past year.”
The 2020 People’s Choice winner Alison Kelly was inspired by her own, personal experiences with the beer for her painting, “No Stress in the OS.” “I equate Blue Moon with Ocean Springs and the beach. The first time I ever tasted Blue Moon was years ago in an Ocean Springs outdoor bar, and it was incredible,” she says. “My painting is laid-back, orange, coastal... it’s got everything I associate with Blue Moon!”
Both artists love being a part of the project and encourage others to participate. To view all of the Top Ten Winners from 2020 and past years,
