“This month, we celebrate South
Mississippi’s” Living History.

About This Issue
South Mississippi is known for many things: the
food, the people, the culture. At the heart of it all
is a history as abundant and as deep as the Gulf
itself. From trees that line Beach Boulevard, having weathered more storms than even the longest residents of the Coast to the historic sites that gave way to the America of tomorrow, history is all around us and still being made today.
This month, we invite you to join us in celebrating Living History – where we’ve come from and where we’re going. We’re taking you, our readers, on a journey through South Mississippi’s past, highlighting the culture, businesses, and hospitality that have withstood the test of time.
In this special section, you’ll find everything from a timeline of the Coast’s biggest history-making events to articles on everything from Pascagoula’s infamous alien abductions and the region’s haunted history to our role in World War II and the Biloxi Wade-Ins, which marked Mississippi’s first nonviolent Civil Rights campaign.
On the cover is the City of Ocean Springs, a city known for its deep-rooted history and tradition, in addition to its artistic flair. Speaking of which, don’t miss the Peter Anderson Festival Guide, which is also included inside this issue. I know I’ve already got my eye on a few booths that I can’t wait to visit! Plan
out your must-see vendors and get to know some of the featured artists in this early edition of the festival guide.
And, of course, every magazine includes our tried and true sections, including Coast Notes, Dining, Home, Shopping, Healthy Living, and our monthly Calendar of Events. We hope you’ll enjoy this month’s issue as much as we enjoyed creating it.
