vehicles, which all display the service’s name and phone number in a large print. Their drivers are trained in COVID safety, cultural sensitivity, driving safety, HIPPA privacy, and working with clients with disabilities; visible or otherwise. “Going to a doctor’s appointments can make anybody nervous. Getting into a car with a stranger can only add to the stress they’re already facing,” Preston says. “We are building a team of compassionate drivers who are considerate of each client. We strive to give good quality service, not just ensuring that they arrive at their appointment safely and on time, but their ride experience is pleasant.
Their caring service often leads to close relationships with clients. “We had a special bond with one of our clients who was a retired teacher and dialysis patient, who my husband and I would personally transport to his appointments due to help needed transferring to the vehicle,” Preston said. “We eventually suggested to his grandson that he needed a different level of service than what we typically provide. Our client said if he could not utilize our service, he would not go to his appointments. It actually brought me to tears, and we made the decision that we would continue to transport him. Sadly, he passed away a few months later.”
For Preston and her husband, this business is much more than a medical service – it’s a ministry. “The church isn’t a building; the believers are the church,” she says. “It’s a very liberating and joyous feeling to simply be the church and share the love of Christ. You don’t have to talk about the Bible or church – a person may not be receptive to that. You can simply display the teachings of the church with kindness, a compassionate heart, a listening ear, and a smile on your face.”
For clients facing health problems, these simple gestures can be much-needed medicine on difficult days. Says Preston, “We are grateful that God has blessed us with an opportunity to do this.”
