David P. Sullivan
David P. Sullivan is a fourth-generation Mississippi lawyer, and a native of Hattiesburg, MS. His father, the late Justice Michael D. Sul- livan, was a presiding justice on the Mississippi Supreme Court and it was Mike’s wit, wisdom and love for the law that inspired his career as a lawyer and judge.
Sullivan began practicing law in Gulfport in 1994, and fondly re- counts his work with larger law firms on the Coast, including his time serving as a partner in a New Orleans firm, where he managed their Gulfport satellite office for eight years. “During those years,” he said, “I served as a part-time Gulfport City Prosecutor. I loved working in the criminal justice system.”
In 2010, Sullivan became a full-time prosecutor and began to specialize in criminal law, focusing primarily on cases that pertained to driving under the influence. In 2012, he opened the Sullivan Law Firm, specializing in felony and misdemeanor criminal defense in both State and Federal Court, while continuing his work in DUI defense. In 2019, he became a municipal judge for the City of D’Iberville, and continues today to serve as a judge in addition to his criminal defense practice across South Mississippi.
His experience as a prosecutor, public defender, criminal defense lawyer, and judge allows Sullivan to bring a balanced, well-rounded approach that solidifies him as the best possible advocate for his clients.
“Good people sometimes make bad decisions. This is a fact that has proved itself to me in life, and especially through my criminal defense practice,” says Sullivan. “Many people in the criminal justice system struggle with alcoholism, substance abuse, and mental health. I do not believe incarceration is the answer for most of these individuals. Helping a person find their way out of alcoholism or addiction and into recovery, rather than prison, remains to be the most satisfying aspect of my work.”
Sullivan resides in Biloxi with his wife, Stefany Sullivan. Together they have four children, daughters Amelia (24) and Marion (22), sons Dakota (22) and Corbin (21), and four miniature Dachshunds. The family enjoys Ole Miss athletics, Saints football, and traveling to see live music, as well as boating and riding jet skis on the rivers, bayous, and to the barrier islands. Sullivan is an avid runner and triathlete, and has competed in both marathons and Ironman triathlon.
