 HOME & GARDEN
  BOLD DESIGN,
Minimal Commitment
 story by Victoria Snyder
  Have you ever wondered how
you can incorporate bold designs into your home, but worried about if you’d like it long-term? Or worried because you need your
big purchases, like your sofa, to last? We have suggestions for you! Contrary to what you may think,
it is possible to make bold design choices with minimal commitment and without breaking the bank.
PAINTING
Try a pop of color or a boldly patterned wallpaper for your walls or ceiling! My suggestion is to start with a feature wall. Grab those paint cans or that roll of wallpaper and see how you feel about it on one wall. If you feel like really taking a risk, you can cover all of them – but it’s better to start small so you’re not overwhelmed.
Trying bright colors, funky patterns, or textured wallpapers can be fun, but don’t combine too many bold ideas into one because they can be overpowering. While more permanent than other options, if you enjoy your new wall(s) for a while but decide you want something more neutral again, you can always repaint or remove the wallpaper!
Not feeling that much commitment to color? Try repainting your baseboards or doors so they pop! Find wooden furniture or lamp bases for cheap and repaint them to turn them into a fun new piece!
DECOR
Another cheap and easy way to add excitement in your home are decorations!
Purchasing or creating artwork to hang on your walls is one way to add personality without the need to paint. If you have children, it’s a good way to get them involved too! You can easily buy a drop cloth and create a piece of splatter paint art with your kids.
If you’re looking to make your living room furniture pop, think about eye-catching throw blankets and pillows. If you really want to change the color of your sofa, look into slipcovers first. This can change the color and/or pattern without the need to get rid of your comfy couch.
Looking to spice up the designs in your bedroom? Get some new curtains! Switch your bedding set! Find a bright rug! You can always keep your originals as backups or find another use for them. It’s easy to switch these pieces out!
If you’re tired of your kitchen table and chairs but aren’t sure what type of design you want, check out tablecloths, new chair cushions, and chair covers.
Wanting something more short-term than these ideas? Get some plants or flowers to keep around the house to add some color!
There are plenty of options to liven up your living area. You don’t need to make any big, fancy purchases to bring bold de- signs into your home. Bright colors, daring patterns, and a metallic hue can add a lot to a space for a little! Make sure to look into color theory first so that you can make sure the colors and patterns you choose go well together.
