Tuna Nachos are one of Joachim’s favorite starters.
Fried wontons are topped with seaweed salad, avocado, roe, and freshly prepared poke-style tuna. If you want something warmer, the fried Duck Wings tossed in a sweet chili glaze and sprinkled with fried onions are incredibly delicious. My favorite, however, was the Fried Caprese.
An enormous ball of fried mozzarella rests on a salad of marinated cherry tomatoes, basil, and onion. When you cut into this orb of fried goodness, mozzarella spills out onto the salad and can be scooped up with awaiting pieces of toasted garlic brioche.
Charred’s entrees range from aged steaks to hearty pasta to simple southern fare. A signature dish is Joachim’s Lamb Chops with mint chutney and carrots. The Blackened Seafood Pasta and even the Charred Burger are house favorites. But Joachim prides himself on his ability to prepare fish in a variety of ways, and while
his specials are ever-changing, the wonderful tastes and lusciousness of his fish dishes are consistently great. A chef favorite is the Red Snapper with Curry and Rice. A flaky piece of locally-sourced red snapper is charred and set on a bed of orange coconut rice and red curry sauce. The curry gives this dish a vibrant orange hue and of course, the delicate nature of the charred fish ads a truly wonderful depth of flavor.
Joachim finds satisfaction in his continued efforts to keep Charred a restaurant that boasts a flavorful menu among a welcoming backdrop. Charred was recently voted Gulf Coast Weekend’s Favorite Steak Restaurant, an honor of which Joachim was incredibly proud. Follow Charred on Facebook for daily specials and be sure to check out their Sunday brunch. It’s a true culinary experience!
