 HEALTHY LIVING
 Happy & Healthy
 HOME
  story by Luke Height
H ave you ever been in a cluttered room filled with all sorts of trinkets, garbage, and old food lying around? How did that make you feel? What was that experience like? Most likely,
you felt like you wanted to run out of there screaming and never come near that place again.
We feel that way because the world around us tells us about who we are. If we have a nice and tidy room, we feel good on the inside. Everything appears to be in order, therefore we must be in order.
On the other hand, when the space around us is messy and chaotic, we feel the same way on the inside. Often times, it can be a sign of stress, depression, or a lack of
attention in an important area of one’s life.
Hannah Seymour, instructor at River Rock Yoga, gives us some insight into how she creates an uplifting space for her students. “When creating a space to practice, I like to
have a clean and well-organized room. However,
I realize life happens and sometimes we find ourselves in a disorganized space. For that reason, I believe music is the best way to start creating a serene and organized environment. Music can not only
change a space but has a profound effect on the mind, body, and spirit.”
If you want to make your
house feel more like a home, turn
on some calming music and notice the immediate changes you feel. Once you start to feel a bit better, you may find more ways to clean up the space such as:
• Organizing the clutter
• Throwing away unnecessary things
• Old receipts • Junk mail • Random trinkets • Lighting a candle
• Reorganizing furniture
• Changing the wall color
• Sweeping and mopping
They say a clean home is a happy home. If you feel like you’re out of sorts, turn on some music and look for ways to get rid of the clutter. Once you start making progress, you’ll feel the weight fall off your shoulders and take a deep breath of relaxation. Give it a try and see what happens.
