Every day children are bombarded with electronic sights and sounds that are becoming increasingly bigger threats to attention spans, social skills, and independent thinking. Kids need a break. Even if they do not understand the complicated outcomes of too much time using electronics, study after study sounds an alarm, warning parents to
be vigilant. The age-old directive from mothers since the beginning of time to, “Go outside and play,” may still be the best remedy for almost anything.
There are plenty of reasons it is good for kids to be outside. Sunshine boosts the body’s vitamin D, which is critical to healthy bone building and strength. Fresh air, natural light, and green plants reduce stress and boost mental health. But the most obvious benefit of being outside is the increase in physical activity and exercise.
