Under The Oak Cafe Scarlet Pearl Casino Resort
Under The Oak Cafe at Scarlet Pearl Casino Resort is described as “whimsical and fun” with its new decor. But it is not only the look that makes the restaurant an ideal place to dine — it is the home-style cooking and selections for every appetite that makes it a winner.
Open daily, Under The Oak serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. There are flame-broiled Angus burgers, including the Kimchi Bang Burger. The Big Pig with grilled smoked sausage and pulled pork in a house-made barbecue sauce and the Fried Green Tomato BLT are just two of the sandwich selections available. Po’boys, salads, appetizers and their popular, award-winning gumbo are also served, along with entree favorites such as fried pork chops, shrimp and grits, grilled salmon and fettuccine alfredo.
Guests will also enjoy traditional Southern favorites, including the platters loaded with generous portions of fried or grilled seafood, hush puppies, coleslaw and fries. Choose from catfish, shrimp or oysters — or why not get a combination of all three?
Served all day, breakfast choices include eggs, French toast, pancakes and omelets. The restaurant also has a sweet selection of house-made desserts.
Daily specials currently offered are red beans and rice on Monday; spaghetti and meatballs on Tuesday; homemade meatloaf on Wednesday; steak sandwich on Thursday; Cajun crawfish and shrimp etouffee on Friday; 40-clove half-roasted chicken on Saturday; and slow-smoked baby back ribs on Sunday.
As for its look, the cafe has a bistro feel to it and features decor of bright yellow, black and white with a clever mix of patterns and fabrics. Surrounding the namesake oak are tall, glamour-adorned booths that allow for privacy and comfort in the open cafe. There is also bar seating where guests can watch TV and plenty
of table seating letting guests take in the gaming action and even enjoy the live entertainment on weekends. Topiaries, wrought iron lanterns, stunning stained-glass art and decorative awnings work to give the restaurant its distinctive flair.
The new look took a while to achieve, but since the restaurant reopened in December, it has received nothing but positive guest comments. Scarlet Pearl CEO LuAnn Pappas said the restaurant was expanded to include an additional 50 seats for a total of 180. She credited AnderCorp and Friedmutter Group for their work on the $4 million makeover, which was part of the resort’s recent $13 million remodel.
Under The Oak Cafe is open Sunday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, 7 a.m. to 1 a.m.
