Dr. Stephen Farrow
Dr. Stephen Farrow, NDORI’s executive director, and his NDORI team work with health, education, and industry partners to serve Mississippians. Together they are expanding a research, clinical, educational, and fundraising framework dedicated
to preventing, mitigating, and curing diabetes and obesity. New initiatives include supporting partners of the Diabetes Coalition of Mississippi in establishing sustained Diabetes Prevention Program services state-wide, and improving access to Diabetes Self-Management education.
Dr. Farrow and his co-chairs with the Mississippi State Department of Health’s Obesity Task Force are addressing food deserts, or areas with limited access to affordable and nutritious food, and youth obesity and diabetes rates. The newly- formed NDORI Champions, a consortium of health and education, manufacturing and entertainment, and tribal, faith, and community leaders, is working to raise awareness of and build sustained financial support which is vital to continuing NDORI’s work.
For his work with the VA, NDORI, and the community to promote endocrinology health in Veteran and underserved populations, Dr. Farrow received the American Association of Clinical Endocrinology’s 2022 international Outstanding Service Award for Promotion of Endocrine Health of an Underserved Population.
Dr. Mark Borchelt
Dr. Mark Borchelt has practiced internal medicine for more than 33 years. Dr. Borchelt, a fellow of the American College of Endocrinology, played
a key role in NDORI’s launch as founding endocrinologist and new-drug clinical trials principal investigator. His belief that the patient’s active role
in managing their health comes from his endocrinology mentor, Dr. Byron Hoogwerf, who taught that active partnership with the patient is fundamental to successful diabetes management.
Dr. Borchelt encourages his patients to ask questions to help ensure their effective progress to diabetes control. He is a member of the American Diabetes Association and an adjunct clinical professor with the William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is an accomplished deep-sea fisherman.
