 COAST NOTE
story by Victoria Snyder
You can help make wishes come true! On Saturday, July 10, at 7 p.m., Make-A-Wish Mississippi’s annual Martini Shakedown fundraiser will be returning to Beau Rivage Resort & Casino for its 17th year. After hosting a virtual Martini Shakedown in 2020, the fundraiser is back to being in-person this year. Funds raised go toward making Wish Kids’ wishes possible.
“In spite of all of the obstacles, we have granted over fifty wishes during the past year, but so many more are waiting,” says Director Shellie Moses. “Presently, we have over sixty kids just in South Mississippi who are in our pipeline to have their wish granted.”
At the event, there will be amazing live music, delicious hors d’oeuvres, magnificent martinis, an amazing silent auction, and great company.
Advanced tickets for the Martini Shakedown are $75 per person and will be $100 the day of the event. You must be 21 or over to attend. The dress code is resort casual.
For additional information and to purchase tickets, you can visit shakedown.givesmart.com or email smoses@ms.wish.org.

Los Angeles-based art collector Gordon W. Bailey has donated fifty pieces of art to the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art. The donation includes pieces from an array of African American and Native American artists and Southern potters.
Bailey is well-known for his donations
to art museums and has helped museums in California, Florida, Washington, D.C., Kentucky, Arkansas, Georgia, and more to expand their collections.
This gift helps the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum enrich its permanent collection and fulfill its founding mission of documenting and celebrating African American art and culture.

New pieces to the museum include
oil painting Melrose by Louisiana native Clementine Hunter, a carving by Mississippian Sulton Rogers entitled Pretty Women, a rare 1946 piece by Minnie Evans, and many more.
The Ohr-O’Keefe Museum has never been home to these artists before and is excited to expand the range of the art that it houses.
Bailey’s donation will be showcased in the Changing Tides: Gifts from Gordon W. Bailey exhibit, opening on July 12.
