story by Victoria Snyder The Gulf Coast is important to
everyone who lives here – and
of course, we want to share what makes this place so special with everyone. One way that’s being done is via film. Mississippi
has implemented incentive programs to get projects to
film in its cities and hire local workers, like a rebate program and tax reductions. With such
a wide variety of beautiful and interesting locations to choose from, who wouldn’t want to shoot on the Gulf Coast?
Gulfport specifically has had quite a few movies and TV shows filmed in its streets, in its businesses, and on its beaches.
The ABC television show Astronaut Wives Club filmed in places like what used to be Triplett-Day Drugs for a diner scene, Back on the Rack Upscale Resale for a dress shop, and, of course, they filmed on Gulfport’s beautiful beaches for some driving and beach scenes.
A Girl Like Grace, a coming-of-age drama, was also filmed in Gulfport and across the Coast. The high school you see highlighted in the film is Gulfport High School! The action movie Precious Cargo prominently features the Port of Gulfport, Island View Casino Resort, and various local waterways.
The Lifetime Movie Network was filmed Nanny Seduction filmed along the Gulf Coast as well. It was shot on the beach near Jones Park, on a property near what was the Great Southern Club Golf Course, and on Second Street in Downtown Gulfport.
Another Lifetime movie, Christmas in Mississippi, was also filmed
in Gulfport. And it didn’t just use locations along the Coast – the movie is actually set in Gulfport! It’s based around the main character returning home and helping with bringing the annual holiday light show after a hurricane years ago. Sound familiar? That holiday light show is based on the real-life Gulfport Harbor Lights Festival at Jones Park, and everything was filmed on location. Other locations used include Island View Casino Resort, Fishbone Alley, Murky Waters, Triplett-Day Drugs, and more places along the Coast.
Other films that were shot in Gulfport include A Deadly Affair, Did I Kill My Mother?, The Card Counter, Mississippi Murder, Category 5, Impact Earth, Arsenal, Midnight Special, and more.
