A priority of the city is to work diligently in developing a vibrant waterfront. The goal is to create an environment
of a working waterfront, expanded opportunities for residential and commercial development, and become a tourist attraction. Currently, the existing 1-110 marina is being replaced as part of a Hurricane Zeta Recovery Project. Preliminary plans are being developed to expand the harbor to the east and the initial phase of the project will consist of an outer perimeter breakwater, shoreline boardwalk, marina slips, and upland development to support marina activities.
To date, the city has secured nearly $8 million in RESTORE funds, State Tidelands, and GOMESA funds.
D’Iberville is in the final selection process for another
$5 million of Round 2 RESTORE funds and annual appropriations of State Tidelands and GOMESA funds.
Another waterfront project on the table is the development of an 80-room hotel and 100 condominiums on the old Brodie property off of Brodie Road. Ike Thrash, founding partner of the Thrash Group, has presented plans for a similar hotel concept to his Hotel Tupelo, located in Tupelo, Mississippi. The proposed condominiums will be consistent with the recently completed Inlet Condominiums in
Ocean Springs. The completed cost for both the hotel and condominiums is expected to be $40 million.
As proudly stated in his recent State of the City address, Mayor Rusty Quave says that “D’Iberville is strong and growing” – words that couldn’t be more true.
