As the saying goes, “Dress for the job you want, not
the job you have.” While some businesses dress casually, others prefer to dress professionally. How should you dress? Here are some tips on how women should dress in each type of work environment or for special work occasions:
BUSINESS FORMAL:
This dress code is for when you are dressing to impress. It’s fancier than business professional and is what you’d wear to a special event, like evening events or award ceremonies. If the event is closer to a cocktail party, you can wear a dress that’s above the knee. If it’s more like a black-tie holiday party, wear a longer dress. Suits are also an option for those more comfortable with them!
You can pair your outfit with shoes such as flats, heels, or oxfords. Jewelry is appropriate in moderation.
Your hair should always be styled in a way that makes you feel comfortable and confident – whether that be a ponytail, an up-do, or natural and free-flowing.
Confidence is key to any outfit for work. If you don’t feel good in an outfit, try something new that works for you – don’t be afraid to put your own spin on these dress codes!
BUSINESS CASUAL:
This style is in between regular, casual clothing and more formal business attire. You’ll want a shirt that fits well, like a nice blouse with a blazer, paired with dress pants or a pencil skirt. A professional dress also works – make sure that it’s long enough!
Make sure that your shoes are close-toed – for example, a pair of flats. For accessories, choose understated jewelry that isn’t distracting.
If you and your coworkers go out after work, what you have on for the day is appropriate.
