Who or what inspired you to pursue your current career?
SSG was the vision of my late husband: to help other surveying firms keep working and sharing the load for the good of the people.
What I like best about what I do is:
Educating people on what a survey is, why they need one, or maybe even why they don’t.
My greatest successes have been:
In the last four years, I have realized
my own value and my strengths in a male-oriented profession, all while going through the hardest loss and total life- altering changes I’ve ever experienced.
It’s important to support other woman-owned businesses because: Women don’t get much professional support from men in their profession, therefore, we must support each other. Even if not in the same area of expertise, women are nurturers and we do that well, even as professionals.
What’s something interesting about you that not many people know?
I have a lot of loves: fishing off Cat Island (my 4th great grandpa was the original owner), road trips, canning fresh vegetables and sauces that I have created,
and teaching people how to live naturally, without harmful chemicals.
What are your favorite things to do on the Coast? Favorite restaurant, etc.
Cruisin’ the Coast, finding who makes the best shrimp and grits, eating Royal Reds, attending arts and crafts shows, driving over the spillway at Paul B. Johnson State Park –which reminds me of picnics with my dad when I was a little girl – and long drives down the beach.
What moment from your life made the biggest impact on your career? Four years ago when I lost my husband, Robby, it was such a shock to everyone, especially me. I had to get out of my comfort zone; he always did all the talking in meetings, while I took notes and learned. With the help of some amazing friends, I realized that I am a valuable part of SSG as a legal woman- owned surveying company. Even though I do not hold a land surveying license, I am grandfathered in under the law, and this point upsets a few of my peers. But with the grace of God watching over myself and SSG, we are achieving goals and making great strides to stay at the top of our game. We cannot do any part of this life without God at the helm!
