After graduating from the University of Mississippi with an undergraduate degree in Pharmaceutical Science then a doctorate in pharmacy,
April Malone practiced general pharmacy in the retail/compounding, institutional/long-term care
and mental health sectors of the healthcare industry. Joining Gulfport Behavioral Health System as director of pharmacy services in 2018, Malone immediately began improving the overall quality of care and patient outcomes through establishing medicine management education processes. It is easy to see Malone’s impact on improved quality of care
shines through with each patient.
The procedures and processes she
has in place have also contributed to improved overall operating returns for the organization.
Malone said, “The stigma around mental and behavioral health issues continues to plague our communities. Educating individuals and our extended community regarding mental health, starting the mental health conversation and encouraging those on psychiatric medications to maintain their medication regimens, is the best way to help improve and maintain the mental wellness of those we love.”
