Lisa Davis with Solace Hospice was inspired to become a registered nurse by her grandmother who was an RN for 44 years. “She was an important person in my life,” she says. “I remember wanting to be a nurse before I even knew what a nurse did by just watching her and hearing her stories.”
As a member of the hospice team that serves others, Davis believes Christ called us to love and serve others. “Hospice care is really a calling to do just that. I believe the Lord has given me a servant heart and being a nurse in this position allows me to truly help others,” she said.
Davis’ career path was not traditional. “I
started a family at a young age so the odds of
my completing high school and college were unfavorable,” she shares, “and to now be in the position I’m in is my success story. I would say my greatest success is being able to balance being an involved mother and wife with a successful career. I feel like the Lord has blessed me specifically to be able to give to others, and there is a beauty in being able to help others in a time of need.”
Of the moments that have impacted her life, Davis counts the biggest as the first time she sat at the bedside of her patient as a hospice nurse and was able to hold the patient’s hand as she took her last breath. “It was so peaceful and natural. I felt like, in that moment, I had confirmation that I was doing what the Lord called me to do,” she says. “So often we live our life trying to figure out what we are supposed to do or question if we are doing the ‘right’ thing. For me, that was confirmation that I had found my calling and 15 years later I am still doing hospice.”
Davis enjoys the coastal beauty and atmosphere, the shopping and dining with her family. “There is no better place!”
