   Brooke Broadus
Owner, Dressed in Blue
Brooke Broadus credits her shopping addiction with opening her shop, Dressed in Blue. “I was raised to shop; it’s just what we always did with my mom!” she says. “So when I had the opportunity to shop for a living, I took it.”
And she is carrying on the family tradition with her daughter while her sons are doing boy things with their dad. “I’ve seen my daughter in action when she doesn’t think I’m paying attention. She’ll flip through every piece of clothing on the rack to make sure she’s seen it all.”
But Broadus wasn’t always a business owner. A Bachelor’s degree in Radiology and Applied Sciences led to a career in
the radiology department at Garden Park Hospital for seven years. However, she didn’t give up shopping during those years.
“The night my husband and I had the conversation about my leaving the hospital and getting into a business I knew nothing about was a big decision,” she recalls. “He put a lot of faith in me and that’s when I decided that nothing could stop me.”
She has learned how to manage her time to be able to run a business while also being a mom and wife. “My greatest successes have been still being open and having a successful business for almost nine years while being a mom to three beautiful children.”
Broadus is appreciative of her customers. “We wouldn’t be open today without all the women who support us,” she says. “We love y’all and couldn’t do it without you.”
Her favorite things about living here? “Like most Coasties, I crave seafood year round but during crawfish season, you can find Jared and I at Taranto’s eating fried pickles and crawfish.”
