and more. The bread has Steamer seasoning and Parmesan cheese baked on top, one of the many exceptional touches from Chef Amanda Vasquez, who treated us to a special bite before we ordered: jalapeño- crawfish cornbread topped with crawfish sauce. If this cornbread becomes a menu regular, it is a must try.
We started with appetizers, selecting the smoked tuna dip. This is a very popular starter, and it is easy to see why. The smoked in-house yellowfin tuna gives this dip its delicious flavor. It comes with a good supply of crackers, but you might want to skip those and just use a fork to enjoy the tuna, it is that good.
Other appetizers include the popcorn shrimp remoulade, warm spinach dip, fried green beans and fried Cajun catfish. There are also oysters on the half shell with homemade cocktail sauce, plus charbroiled, Bienville and Rockefeller oysters, as well as a sampler option. We selected the sampler, which gave us two of each type and were pleased with the size of the oysters. The charbroiled were delicious, and we also enjoyed the spicy shrimp and cream sauce of the Bienville and the classic spinach cream sauce of the Rockefeller. You can’t
go wrong with the sampler, especially when sharing.
Gumbo with smoked sausage, shrimp, crawfish, okra and white rice is just one of the soup offerings, along with corn chowder and royal red shrimp bisque. Soups can be ordered by the cup or bowl.
Dinners come with the
wonderful house chopped
salad: a lettuce blend with
red and yellow tomatoes, cucumbers, bacon, candied
pecans, Parmesan cheese and
green onions all mixed with the house dressing and served family style in a large bowl. The dressing, a wonderful white balsamic vinegar, is so good, the restaurant sells it by the quart.
The steamer selection is plentiful with the features including Gulf shrimp, royal red shrimp (these are a little sweeter), snow crab clusters, Jonah crab claws and Dungeness crab. There are shrimp platters, jumbo platters for six and the create-your- own platter, where you get your choice of two items. We opted for the deluxe platter, which had generous portions of peel-and-

The fresh taste of the shellfish came through in every bite, and while it is served with melted butter, the sweet crab meat was delicious by itself. The legs and claws were also easy to peel, which meant it was possible to get large pieces out without tearing to shreds the delectable meat.
The Steamer also has lobster, filet mignon, rib eye and the surf and turf, which comes with a wood-fired rib-eye steak with
