The Buffet at Island View, from Page 19
stuffed crabs, cornbread, corn on the cob and a popular carrot soufflé casserole for a true down-home delight.
Always in demand is the boiled shrimp, which is prominently displayed at the Southern station along with cocktail and remoulade sauces. While the sauces provide a bit of zing to each bite, we found the flavorful shrimp to be delicious just as it is.
At the rotisserie station, the slow-cooked round of beef served with au jus got a thumbs up, along with the green onion pork sausage, the barbecue ribs and the fried Cajun turkey. The marmalade-glazed
ham was another favorite that received spontaneous appreciation from a nearby diner. This time, it was a man from Tallahassee who expressed his pleasure to the chef.
Turnip greens, green beans, baked chicken and the loaded potato casserole — another top dish — were also available during our visit. Our group enjoyed the meatloaf, too, along with mashed potatoes and gravy, stuffing, and chicken and dumplings — comfort food at its finest.
We spent time at the salad station, which starred Gulf Coast shrimp salad and a crab salad boasting large

pieces of crab. Even those who are not typical salad fans will savor these two creamy selections. Also featured were such favorites as greens, vegetables and toppings, dressings, as well as
more specialty items, including marinated beet salad, Southern coleslaw, potato salad and Waldorf salad.
Now, this is not a complete
listing of everything offered,
but it is a good bit of what
makes The Buffet so good no
matter how many people are in your party. And, we haven’t even started on dessert, including the house-made gelatos, custards, sorbets and ice cream (we enjoyed butter pecan). Rush said carrot cake probably ranked No. 1 with diners, with pecan pie and cheesecake
also placing high. We soon found out why as we devoured every delightful, sweet bite. Cream puffs, shortcake and made-to-order funnel cakes stole the show, as well. Sugar
free desserts are also an option. Whether a hearty eater who likes a variety of food or someone who prefers something in particular, The Buffet is sure to please. In fact, there is so much to love about Island View’s buffet that the best advice would be to visit the restaurant
for yourself and just dig in.
The Buffet is open for breakfast daily,
7 to 10:30 a.m.; lunch, Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; dinner, Sunday through Thursday, 4 to 10 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, 4 to 11 p.m.; and Sunday brunch, 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
