y pathway through the world of higher education is filled with many accolades and accomplishments. I’ve had the pleasure of leading some of the
finest students and faculty and staff members in the state of Mississippi. Although I am very proud of everything I’ve achieved, becoming Alcorn State University’s 19th president is indeed the highlight of my career thus far.
This place has held a special place in my heart for a long time. There’s nothing like coming onto campus and experiencing all that comes with it; the family atmosphere, the knowledgeable instructors, the courteous faculty and staff and dedicated alumni set themselves apart from colleges and universities elsewhere.
As I reflect on my days as a student on campus, I never dreamt of one day being the leader of this fine institution. As a matter of fact, the whole time I was matriculating here, I now realize that Alcorn was molding me into the man and leader I am today. I’m thankful that I was cognizant enough to soak up the wisdom of those who worked tirelessly to shape the minds of my peers and myself. Without their tutelage, I wouldn’t have made it this far.
A new step on my journey is approaching, and I want to thank the Alcorn community for its service and commitment to promoting the university. It is your dedication that has helped propel Alcorn to the top. Continue to represent your university with integrity, sophistication and honor.
I will forever cherish the time I’ve spent serving you as president.
Forever Brave,
Alfred Rankins Jr., Ph.D. 19th President
