Anita Gardner, owner of Brooklyn Pizzeria in Bay St. Louis, gets her inspiration and “can do” spirit
from her U.S. Navy Seabee dad and attributes her strong work ethic to him. She and her husband, Michael,
thankful.”
Anita said her favorite things about
owning a restaurant are getting to know the regular customers and watching their families grow. “We’ve also been blessed with many fine
subs. “But after being around pizza all of the time, I love a good Mexican
both come from military backgrounds and have lived all over the country.
The two opened the doors to
their restaurant on November 5, 2012. “My sister and her husband, Darlene and Mark Cruthirds, own Brooklyn Pizzeria in Gulfport, and were instrumental in helping us get Brooklyn in the Bay up and running,” Anita said. “For that, I will always be
employees, and it’s been a pleasure to work with them,” she said. “We are a small, close-knit group, and I feel like the employees are my family.”
Anita said she focuses on making sub sandwiches at the restaurant and “leaves the pizza to the pizzamakers.” She says the “all-the-way pizza” and the white sauce pizzas are some of her favorites, as well their salads and
meal,” she said.
Although she gets her “can do”
spirit from her dad, owning a restaurant takes a lot of hard work and dedication. “You have to have a passion for what you do in anything.”
