says Michael Knapp, police sergeant over community relations and school resource office. “It's a much better facility for our staff of 44.”
He enumerates the many changes including increasing the number of bathrooms from two to 15; the bullet proof glass at the front desk; spacious conference
room; large kitchen with all the amenities; male and female locker rooms; training room with all the latest technology; locked evidence room; separate area and holding cells for juveniles; secure parking area and everything needed for the highest level of policing.
Chief Wayne Payne beams when talking about the new two-story headquarters, the department's third facility. “There was a time when police services here were through the sheriff's office. Then we started the D'Iberville Police in a double wide trailer,” he recalls. “We laid out the plans for this facility on cardboard after visiting all the police departments on the Coast. This facility was our dream. We're very excited about it and it's something of which all the citizens can be proud.”
