After 15 years of working in the nonprofit sector, Sarah Cortell Vandersypen feels as passionate about her career today as she did when she started. “I was moved by the simple fact that without money, no nonprofit could ever achieve its mission and make the type of impact it wanted to in its community,” she says. “That’s why I became a fundraiser.”
In February 2023, she joined the United MSD Foundation as
its executive director. “I find it energizing every day to work with an amazing team of staff, board members, MSD families, program partners, and researchers across the world to advance our mission – to cure MSD,” says Cortell Vandersypen.
MSD, or Multiple Sulfatase Deficiency, is a rare neurodegenerative genetic condition in children. Currently, there is no treatment or cure, but due to the dedication of our families and supporters, we’re closer than ever to a potential therapy. There is real hope.

Born and raised on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, Courtney Jacobs has always had a passion for people and making a positive difference in their lives. Jacobs has an amazing husband, also in the insurance industry, and two beautiful children.
She is involved in many organizations that help promote the beauty of the Gulf Coast and serve our community, to include past president of the Biloxi Kiwanis Club, active member of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Chamber, and vice chair of small business for the Mississippi Gulf Coast Biloxi Chamber board, president of Junior Auxiliary of Gulfport, and Like Minded Ladies Gulf Coast.
Her passion for making a positive impact in people’s lives and making her community better led to her starting IDR in 2018. IDR brings a new culture of independent insurance agencies to the state of Mississippi.
