Island View has St. Patrick’s Day dining specials
GULFPORT — St. Patrick’s Day at The View Casino Resorts features Irish specialties on Friday, March 17. Several restaurants, including The Buffet, will have holiday specials.
The Buffet will offer sliced corned beef, Irish lamb stew with vegetables, and colcannon — cabbage, potatoes and caramelized onions and traditional smothered cabbage. Also enjoy all the traditional favorites from the Asian, Southern, and Italian stations.
The Buffet’s St. Patrick’s Day menu will be available Friday, March 17, for lunch from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., ($13.99) and dinner from 4 to 10 p.m. ($27.99).
The Diner will serve a festive meal of tender corned beef hash topped with a poached egg and hollandaise sauce served over a bed of creamed spinach from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. for $14 per person.
C&G Grille will mark this festive day with a choice of either house salad, seafood gumbo or soup of the day, followed by
tender corned beef nested over a spinach potato pancake with cabbage and carrots. This Irish-themed meal will be served for $18 per person from 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.
And finally, at Dockside Deli guests can start the meal with potato soup, then choose an entrée of either salmon croquettes with dill tartar and traditional colcannon or Guinness braised lamb stew with carrots. This meal will be served from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. for $16 per person.
Dining guests must be 21 and older.

We loaded our plates for the first round and sat down. Chef Mike Lucas, who earlier was grilling steaks, something he spends a lot of time doing as more than 400 are cooked on a given Saturday night, took a break to talk to us about the buffet. He told us he and his team take pride in all the
freshly made dishes at the buffet, including hand-battered fried fish and shrimp, made- from-scratch chicken and dumplings, and a bevy of entrées, sides and sauces that come straight from in-house recipes. Lucas said he knows he is doing something right based on all those who regularly dine at the buffet.
“We have a tremendous amount of regulars. It’s a big compliment to us that they keep coming back,” the chef said, adding if something is off, the regulars let him know that, too. He appreciates the feedback as his goal is to maintain a buffet
that serves only the best food in a safe and healthy environment. To that end, Lucas said they take extra steps to make sure everything is clean, utensils are routinely switched out and food is kept at proper temperatures and continually refreshed. Tables are also kept clean and dirty plates are quickly picked up.
That freshness that Lucas strives for was evident in all that we tried — and we tried our fair share. Upon leaving the Flames station, we visited the Comfort

station for Southern fare, served in part by the energetic Miss Virginia, who cheerfully welcomed everyone to the buffet. Fried chicken, mac and cheese, fried green tomatoes, cornbread muffins and a variety of home-cooked Southern vegetables, including lima beans, collard greens and sweet carrots, were all wonderful.
